CalETC welcomes Uber as new member, strengthening push for an all-electric transportation future

CalETC welcomes Uber as its newest member, bringing one of the world’s most influential mobility platforms into the coalition at a critical time in California’s clean transportation transition.

“California has set the pace for clean transportation nationwide, but the next phase requires more than targets. It also requires scale, coordination, and seamless execution,” said CalETC Executive Director Laura Renger. “Uber adds real-world deployment expertise to our membership, as it sits directly at the intersection of drivers, riders, charging infrastructure, and market demand. That’s exactly why this partnership matters.”

Electrifying high-utilization vehicles like rideshare, she added, is one of the fastest ways to cut emissions, improve air quality, and expand equitable access to clean mobility. With millions of trips, thousands of drivers and daily decisions about how people move through cities, Uber’s scale is unmatched.

“It’s great to see the progress our drivers are making with EVs in California, but we still have a lot of work to do,” said Uber Head of Sustainability Policy Tessa Sanchez. “From upfront costs to reliable charging, the barriers are real. By joining CalETC, we’re focused on making the transition easier, more accessible, and more affordable for drivers. If we get the economics right for them, the whole state wins.”

CalETC looks forward to working with Uber to keep our momentum going, and to secure the state’s clean transportation future.
