Southern California Edison and Honda, both members of the California Electric Transportation Coalition, announced a partnership to advance vehicle-to-home and vehicle-to-grid technology.
Through the collaboration, the companies will begin testing systems that allow future Honda and Acura electric vehicles to:
- Power homes during outages or peak demand periods
- Send energy back to the grid to support reliability
- Help customers lower total household energy costs
“SCE is excited to collaborate with Honda to help unlock our customers’ ability to use their electric vehicles for more than just transportation,” said Funmi Williamson, chief customer officer and senior vice president at Southern California Edison.
The testing will be supported by ChargeScape, a joint venture between Honda, Ford and Nissan—also CalETC members—and BMW. The platform is designed to seamlessly integrate electric vehicles into the grid.
“Honda continues to leverage our deep experience in battery, solar and fuel cell technologies to provide our customers a wide range of zero-carbon vehicle and home energy solutions,” said Gary Robinson, vice president of sustainability and business development at American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
The collaboration was announced ahead of RE+ 25, North America’s largest clean energy event, scheduled for Sept. 8–11 in Las Vegas. At the event, Honda will showcase the Acura RSX Prototype, the company’s first vehicle built on its new global EV platform.
“This collaboration is a milestone in California’s clean transportation leadership, demonstrating how automakers, utilities and technology providers can partner to accelerate the transition to a zero-carbon future,” said CalETC Executive Director Laura Renger.
